Pros and cons of Toughened Glass
Manufacturing of toughened glass is a highly technical and specialised process. Toughened glass is prepared from annealed glass through the process of thermal tempering. During the process, the inner layer undergoes contraction. This adds to the strength of the glass. Annealed glass is heated up to 720 °C and then cooled rapidly. Surface of toughened glass is less hard compared to the annealed glass. It makes the glass scratch susceptible.
Two types of toughened glass are available in market. They are heat strengthened toughened glass and fully tempered toughened glass. While heat strengthened glass is synonymous with strength and durability, the speciality of fully tempered glass is its heat withstanding capacity.
Toughened glass needs to be cut to the exact size before toughening as cutting is not possible once toughened. Hence, we finish all the polishing and drilling before toughening.
The advent of Internet has made the search for right kind of glass easier and need not necessarily require an expert. With few clicks on computer you can collate relevant information like list of suppliers in your area, different kind of products available etc.
